Masking: The Hold, February 2026

Suffolk Archives invited us to exhibit the masks created at a Neurodivergent Mask Decorating Workshop that I delivered in February. The exhibition took place at The Hold as part of their ‘Beyond Labels’ event.

'Neurodivergent' is a term that refers to brain processing differences. Many successful people such as Einstein have demonstrated the gifts that these differences can bring to our world. For example dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, autism, ADHD, OCD and acquired brain difference. The concept of masking is a metaphor for how many neurodivergent people struggle to navigate socially without having to 'mask' or conform to a certain accepted behaviour pattern instead of relaxing and being themselves. This is due to a lack of understanding or acceptance of our differences. Through education and advocacy we hope to challenge that and celebrate our gifts and talents.
